OVERVIEW
The design brief is to provide a cafe/restaurant at ground level that has a strong connection to the streetscape and eastern coastal parkland and facilitate community engagement through its orientation and integration. The first and second levels are a single dwelling that serves to home a family and provide access to all the climatic and locationally specific amenities. The site offers an incredible aspect with its location in turn providing an opportunity to engage with the surrounding environment and community through the built form, landscaping and its operation/function.
The built form is natively slender due to the site size and planning constraints. This in turn provides an opportunity for all key spaces (living, bedrooms, commercial) to orientate to the views, breezes and sun light. Secondary operational spaces such as hallways, garages, services and vertical circulation are positioned to the west - in turn providing further separation from neighbouring lots. Integrated landscaping and roof gardens lighten the building mass and provide connection to the surrounding environment (coastal planting proposed).
Operable screening and openings to the east allow for complete control and access to views whilst providing privacy and protection. Cross flow ventilation proposed through strategically position windows to the south and west.
