Peregian Beach House

Coastal New Home

BUILDER Cooper Small
STATUS Under Construction (completion 2024)
LOCATION Peregian Beach, Queensland

OVERVIEW

The proposed design replaces the existing house with a new coastal inspired home which offers greater amenity and space for a growing family, whilst providing improved work from home functionality.

The spatial program are derived from the site constraints, climatic conditions, and the brief which emphasised a coastal indoor/outdoor lifestyle. The home is centred around a large multi functional courtyard which consists of grassed play areas, pool/ lounge seating, storage and dense tropical landscaping (for privacy/ noise buffering from adjacent road).

The building form takes reference from the clients preference for pitched, traditional roof form but in a site and climatic specific application. A modern gable is expressed on the east which in turn encloses the sleeping and services wing (flat ceilings, cosy setting, etc). In juxtaposition to this roof a pitched roof falls down to the west, reducing the exposure to the western sun whilst providing a double height ceiling to the living space and raking ceiling to the master bedroom. The separate office to the west provides additional buffer whilst following the same architectural language (closing to the street, opening to the courtyard). A modern landscaped concrete breezeway provides a subtle but elegant connection between the two.
